Counter Option – Low Warrior

Counter Option – Low Warrior

Warrior is a counter option that can be initiated when running the Low series within the Princeton Offense. It is a quick hitter that can be used at the end of a game or quarter.

Part 1 – Dribble Entry with Loop Cut Action

Part 1 - Dribble Entry With Loop Cut Action | Princeton Offense - Counter Option For Low Series - Warrior

1 makes a dribble entry from the slot to the wing on the right side.

As that movement happens, 3 makes a loop cut near the slot previously occupied by 1.

1, now on the wing, makes a pass to 5 on the low post block.

Now, the offense looks similar to Low.

However, there will be post split action from both wing players.

Part 2 – Split Post Action Option 1

As 5 has the basketball, 1 is setting a flare screen for 3.

Simultaneously, on the weak side, the defense is being occupied by another flare screen set by 2 for 4.

From here, there are a couple of reads that 3 needs to make depending on what the defender is doing.

For this example, the defender plays straight up so 3 cuts over the top of the flare screen set by 1 and fills the wing on the right side.

As that happens, 1 makes a strong dive to the basket looking for the pass from 5.

5 makes a quick bounce pass to 1 for the layup.

5 can also pass back out to 3 for a quick shot if that is open.

Part 3 – Split Post Action Option 2

Here is another possible read option based on 3’s defender.

For this example, the defender overplays so 3 slips the screen and makes a strong dive to the rim instead of 1.

1 also fills the slot held by 3 after setting the flare screen.

5 makes a quick pass to 3 for the layup at the hoop.
