Horns Offense Quick Hitters

A variety of quick hitters that are initiated from the Horns alignment.


Cross Screen – Part 1

This play uses the Horns set to create inside scoring options for the team’s best post player.

4 will set a ball screen for 1.

1 will use the screen and dribble to the left wing perimeter.

As this happens, 2 will set a diagonal back screen for 5 and then step out to the right wing area.

5 will come off the back screen and enter into the post block on the left side.

1 will look to pass to 5 inside for the low post scoring opportunity.


Cross Screen – Part 2

If 1 cannot get the ball inside to 5, 1 reverses the ball to 4.

5 passes to 2 and at the same time, 3 will step into the lane to set a cross screen for 5.

5 cuts under the screen and establishes position in the low post on the right side.

3 will also fill 5’s previous position at the left side low post block.

2 looks inside to 5 who can score at the basket via a post move.


Double Drag Screen

As 1 dribbles up the court from the left side, 4 will set the first screen, then roll to the basket.

At the same time, 5 will set the second screen and pop out to the 3 point line.

1 will come off of both screens and now has several options based on the defense :

1 can take the ball to the basket for the layup or shoot the jump shot if open.

1 can pass to 4 who has rolled to the basket.

1 can pass to 5 who has popped out to the 3 point line.

1 can pass to 3 in the corner if 3’s defender leaves him to help in the lane.


Double Screen – Part 1

1 dribbles to the left wing and as this occurs, 2 will step in towards the left side low post block.

4 and 5 will set double stagger screens for 3.

3 will cut high off of the screens to the top of the key behind the 3 point line.


Double Screen – Part 2

When 3 spots up at the top, 1 will reverse the ball to 3 while 4 and 5 set another pair of double screens for 2.

2 will come off both screens and spot up behind the three point line near the right wing.

3 will reverse the ball to 2 and 2 will take the jump shot if open.

Also, as a secondary option, when 1 reverses the ball to 3, 3 can take the open shot instead of passing to 2.

In addition, this play allows 4 and 5 to get in offensive rebounding position just in case 2 (or 3) misses the shot.


Double Screen Post – Part 1

This play gets the ball into the low post via a double screen for the team’s best post player.

5 will set a down screen for 3.

At the same time, 4 will sprint to the right low post block and 2 will sprint to the left post block.

1 will dribble to the right side of the court, 3 will come off the screen to the right wing, and 1 will pass to 3.


Double Screen Post – Part 2

From here, 3 will dribble to the left side of the court while 4 and 2 will set double screens for 5.

5 will come off of both screens to the left post block.

3 will pass the ball inside to 5 who can attempt to score via low post moves.

In addition, 2 will also clear out to the free throw line while 4 trys to get into offensive rebounding position.


High Pick and Roll

4 and 5 will set double high screens for 1.

1 will come off of 5’s screen while 5 rolls to the basket.

4 will also drop back to the top of the key.

From here, 1 has several options depending on the defense’s reaction :

1 can take the open jump shot, pass to 5 who rolled to the basket, or pass to 3 in the corner if open.


High Screen – Part 1

4 will set a diagonal down screen for 2.

2 will come off the screen towards the left wing.

1 will pass the ball to 2 and as this occurs, 5 will set a back screen for 1.

1 will make a cut off the back screen towards the basket.

2 will look to pass to 1 for the layup if open.


High Screen – Part 2

If 1 is not open under the basket, 1 will cut through to the left side deep corner.

5 will set an on ball screen for 2 and roll to the basket.

As this happens, 2 will dribble over the top of the screen towards the right elbow.

Additionally, 4 will cut to the top of the key behind the three point line.

2 has several options depending on the defense:

2 can take the elbow mid range jump shot if open.

2 can pass to 5 who rolled to the basket for the layup if open.

2 can kick the ball out to 3 who can take the open jump shot if 3’s defender helps in the lane.

2 can also reverse the ball back to 4 who can take the jump shot if open.


Post Isolation 1 – Part 1

This play is initiated out of the Horns set to create a low post scoring opportunity.

4 will step out to set an on ball screen for 1 and then roll to the opposite post block.

1 will use the screen and dribble towards the left wing area near the free throw line extended.

As this happens, 5 will step out to the center of the court to fill and replace 1’s original position.

At the same time, 2 will flash up high to the right wing perimeter behind the three point line.


Post Isolation 1 – Part 2

1 will reverse the ball to 5 at the top of the key.

5 will reverse the ball again to 2 on the right wing perimeter.

2 will look to pass the basketball inside to 4 who will attempt to score at the rim via a low post move.


Post Isolation 2 – Part 1

1 dribbles towards the left wing.

At the same time, 4 will set a diagonal cross screen for 3 and 3 will come off the screen towards the right wing.

Additionally, 5 will set a diagonal cross screen for 2. 2 will come off the screen towards the top of the key.

After setting the screen for 2, 5 will establish position on the left side low post block.

1 will pass the ball inside to 5.


Post Isolation 2 – Part 2

After the pass is made to 5, 1 will cut through to the opposite corner.

4 will also slide into the opposite low post area for offensive rebounding opportunities.

5 can attempt to score via low post moves or pass to one of the other four teammates if they are open.


Screen the Screener

1 passes to 4 in the left high post.

At the same time, 5 sets a diagonal down screen for 3.

3 comes off the screens and spots up on the right wing perimeter.

1 will cut towards the right low post to set a flex screen for 5.

5 will come off the screen set by 1 and cut across the lane.

4 will pass the ball to 5 for the layup if open.


Screen the Screener Post – Part 1

This play out of Horns uses screen the screener action to get the ball to the low post player.

1 will make a high post entry pass to 4.

After the pass, 1 and 5 will set double stagger screens for 2.

2 will come off the screens and spot up on the left wing perimeter.

Simultaneously, 3 will cut in towards the post block on the right side.

1 will also fill the left corner behind the three point arc.


Screen the Screener Post – Part 2

4 will dribble towards 2 near the left wing and execute a dribble hand off.

2 will dribble towards the right wing and as this occurs, 3 will set a cross back screen for 5.

In addition, 3 will fill the left post block.

5 will cut under the screen and establish position in the low post on the right block.

2 will dump the ball inside to 5 for the low post score near the basket.


Triple Screen 1 – Part 1

This play utilizes the Horns alignment to create a three point opportunity for the team’s best shooter.

1 will pass to 4 in the high post and cut through to the low post block on the left side.

As this occurs, 5 will step up to set a down screen for 3.

3 will come off the screen and go towards the extended elbow.

2 will also come up high to the left wing perimeter.


Triple Screen 1 – Part 2

4 will give the ball to 3 via a dribble hand off.

On that dribble hand off, 1 will step out the low post to set a back screen for 2.

5 will also go into the center of the lane to set another screen.

4 will set a third screen near the right lane mid post.

2 will curl around the triple screens to the opposite wing behind the three point arc.

3 will pass the ball to 2 who can take the open jump shot.


Triple Screen 2 – Part 1

1 will pass to 5 and as this occurs, 3 will cut to the left side post block. set a brush screen for 4.

Next, 1 will set a brush screen for 4 and 4 will come off the screen towards the right side post block area.

1 will step back towards the top of the key behind the 3 point line.

2 will also come up towards the foul line extended near the left wing.


Triple Screen 2 – Part 2

After 4 curls around the screen set by 1, 5 will pass the ball back to 1.

Next, 3, 4, and 5 will set a triple screen for 2.

2 will come off of all three screens and spot up on the right wing perimeter.

1 will pass to 2 who can take the open shot.

In addition, 4 and 5 should try to box out for offensive rebounding opportunities.
