Quick Hitter – Celtic

Quick Hitter – Celtic

Celtic is a quick hitter within the Princeton Offense that can create multiple scoring options through the low post or perimeter. The action involves a back screen, double flex screens, and a screen the screener option.

Part 1 – Dribble Hand-Off & Exchange

Part 1 - Dribble Hand-Off & Exchange | Quick Hitter - Celtic

This action begins with 3 as the initiator.

3 begins the action by dribbling toward 1 to make a hand-off.

At the same time, on the other side of the floor, 4 and 2 exchange spots to occupy the defense.

5 will also flash to the high post on ball side.

Part 2 – Back Screen Option

Part 2 - Back Screen Option| Quick Hitter - Celtic

After the dribble hand-off and exchanged positions, 1 passes back to 3 on the wing.

Next, 1 cuts off a back screen set by 5.

As that action happens, 2 moves to the top of the key.

Also, 3 makes a quick look inside for 1 for the layup if that is open.

Part 3 – Ball Reversal

Part 3 - Ball Reversal | Quick Hitter - Celtic

From here, 3 reverses the ball to 2 and the ball is reversed again to 4.

As those reversal passes occur, 5 cuts down to the mid post near 1.

Part 4 – Double Flex Screen Action

Part 4 - Double Flex Screen Action | Quick Hitter - Celtic

After 4 has the ball, 1 and 5 set double flex screens for 3.

3 comes off the screens and cuts to the basket.

4 makes a quick look inside to 3 for the layup if that is open.

Also, 3 can catch the ball on the block and score from post up moves if possible.

If the layup is not available, 3 gets out toward the deep corner on ball side.

However, it’s possible for 3 to catch the ball on the block and score from the post if a mismatch occurs.

Part 5 – Screen the Screener Action

Part 5 - Screen the Screener Action | Quick Hitter - Celtic

This last part of the sequence creates a jump shot opportunity for 1 out of a screen the screener action.

5 goes to set a little rub screen while 2 comes down to set a zipper screen near the free throw line.

1 comes off the screens towards the top of the key.

4 passes to 1 who takes the shot if open.
